PM Imran Khan PTI-led federal government is considering former finance minister Shaukat Tareen, to be appointed as a federal minister or an adviser to the prime minister on finance.
Shaukat Tarin previously enjoyed the portfolio of Finance Minister during the last tenure of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government and is facing NAB reference for alleged corruption in the Rental Power Project (RPPs) deals.
Shaukat Tarin would replace the Federal Finance Minister Hammad Azhar.
Earlier too, Prime Minister Imran Khan had offered Shaukat Tareen the portfolio of the finance minister but he had apologized, until and unless he is exonerated & cleared by the NAB allegations.
Shaukat Tareen is a renowned economist who played a key role in the NFC Award for the distribution of national revenue. He has a deep command & grasp of economic matters and is particularly skilled at raising funds as well as generating national revenue.
He was elected as a senator in 2009 and then became the finance minister.
He was born in Multan in 1953 and has served senior positions in several foreign and local banks, including Citibank.
